Goodbye Faithful O’Brien! present…
THE SLEEPING YEARS
http://www.myspace.com/thesleepingyears
The Sleeping Years is the new project from Dale Grundle, formerly of the Catchers. Now signed to innovative indie-label Rocketgirl and French label Talitres, the debut album ‘We’re becoming Islands One by One’, is a gorgeous exploration of melody and melancholy. Dale’s exquisitely crafted songs tell of people trying to stay connected in a world seemingly designed to keep them apart. He is heavily influenced by the language and culture of his home in Ireland, providing a distinct character to this highly personal collection of songs. Goodbye Faithful O’Brien sees Dale perform with his full band which is sure to be a magical experience.
“Just as Sufjan Stevens has been moved to celebrate the quirks and character of the United States, so Dale Grundle is devising his own charts, full of wonder, dread and reverie. Can't wait to see where he takes us next.” - Stuart Bailie (BBC Radio)
''..truly lovely, full of joyful instrumentation and evocative imagery.' - Subba Cultcha
“..his voice breaks exquisitely between hope and despair in songs that the acoustic guitar was invented for' - The Guardian
THE MONROE TRANSFER
http://www.myspace.com/electricoldwirenoise
The Monroe Transfer are a UK-based, entirely independent 7-piece group, making densely orchestrated, melancholic, uplifting instrumental music on a variety of instruments. They have two forthcoming releases including a unique CD & DVD double-pack of ‘I Dreamt I Was A Hammer And Everything Was Glass’, featuring animated film by Gemma Burditt on Organ Grinder Records and a 10" split vinyl with Dear Euphoria on Stereo Test Kit Records. This will sadly be the last Monroe Transfer appearance for bass wizard Dave O’Brien so come along and give him a decent send off.
"At their most beautiful they’re able to lightly brush the places that so few other instrumental acts can...it’s exciting when a band that features not a single singer is able to take you away to someplace other than the here and now on fabulous waves of orchestral sound. The Monroe Transfer, at their most beautiful, are that band." - Drowned in Sound
THE McCARRICKS
www.myspace.com/themccarricksmusic
The McCarricks are an internationally known audio visual project comprising cellist Martin McCarrick and violinist Kimberlee McCarrick, together with a collective of highly talented film makers.
The music - dark, evocative, compelling, hypnotic, unsettling - yet strangely beautiful, flutters between influences ranging from Shostakovich to The Aphex Twin with a mellifluous ease. The live performance sees The McCarricks performing in front of a film screen where shoppers in a Japanese supermarket mix with 1950’s slow motion contortionists via an enchanted forest with the strangest of inhabitants. The imagery captivates and leads the viewer into the imaginations that create this beautiful music.
“…voluptuous melodies that stagger drunkenly and bring a heady richness.” - The Guardian.
“…swirling, sinuous arrangements.” The Financial Times
