Cthulhu and Contemporary Occultures

Presented by: London Fortean Society
0LONDON: The Bell
PThursday 31st March, 2016
N7:45pm

Event information

Over the last decade, HP Lovecraft’s fictional Cthulhu mythos has increasingly gained traction within popular media, being referenced in novels, comics, films and successful TV series such as South Park and True Detective. Lovecraft’s best known creation has also exerted a profound influence on contemporary magical, ufological and conspiratorial lore.

Phil Hine, author of Lovecraftian magical text The Pseudonomicon, and Dr Justin Woodman, an anthropologist specialising in Lovecraftian occultures, examine some of the reasons why Lovecraft’s creations have struck such a significant chord within both modern esoteric thought and popular culture
