NEIL MICHAEL HAGERTY & THE HOWLING HEX
Singer/songwriter/guitarist Neil Hagerty honed his subversive approach to rock over the course of two decades in two of the underground's most prominent bands. In the '80s, he fueled Pussy Galore's anti-rock cacophony and blurred the boundaries between avant-noise and classic rock as one half of Royal Trux in the '90s. Hagerty also made a name for himself as a witty, if somewhat chaotic, satirist with his 1997 book Victory Chimp. Royal Trux's turbulent existence finally ended in early 2001, just before the release of his solo debut Neil Michael Hagerty, which was released by the Trux's longtime label Drag City. Hagerty's solo career proved to be prolific, resulting in 2002's Plays That Good Old Rock and Roll and the following year's The Howling Hex. With a body of solo work that seemingly plunges ever further into the charred embers of his distinctive sonic palette with every release, Hagerty has always remained several steps ahead of his imitators.

THE REBEL
The Rebel started around 1987 and developed a side project by mistake in 1993 called Country Teasers. The Rebel has released approx 30 albums or so; comparisons have been drawn with William Burroughs' singing voice, Tammy Wynette's flair for banging pieces of metal against her head, which was also made of metal, and lastly the rich velvet tones of Sade's classic albums "Promise" and to a lesser extent "Diamond Life". The Fall, The Residents, Datblygu, Butthole Surfers, Beno, you-know, the usual dross. Killing Joke; The Beatles; you know, stuff like that. Supertramp. Before the Shadow Ring, The Rebel sounded nothing like the Shadow Ring, but now it's as if The Rebel copies everything they've ever done or not done.
