1631 Recordings will celebrate it’s one year birthday as a label with a very special evening of modern classical/ambient music in London. Five 1631 artists will perform at the beautiful St John on Bethnal Green, and Library Tapes will chose the music before, between and after the concerts.
LUCY CLAIRE
Lucy Claire is a London based composer originally from the North East of England. Trained at London’s Royal College of Music in composition and music for the moving image Lucy has collaborated with many filmmakers, choreographers and artists on projects as well as releasing solo work and performing live around London.
OLAN MILL
Olan Mill is the recording project of UK composer and producer Alex Smalley, who to date has received rapturous acclaim for his work that holds a sublime measure between the realms of modern neo-classical composition and ambience.
MARCO CARICOLA
Marco Caricola is an Italian composer based in London, UK. Surrounded by music since his early age, he has developed a unique style blending elements from different influences ranging from romantic era to modern electronica. These colours merge to create musical architectures built on repeated piano patterns, fragile strings harmonies and ambient soundscapes, resulting in a highly emotional cinematic experience.
JP HARTNETT
JP Hartnett is an Irish musician, living in London. He began playing music while studying design at Central Saint Martins, and since then has released a 12" and two digital EPs – all comprised of recordings made on piano. He employs intuitive composition, improvisation and digital processing to create pieces that shift between ambient and a ‘DIY form of classical’.
MATT STEWART-EVANS
Matt Stewart-Evans is a London-based composer and producer, creating solo piano, classical and electronic-influenced music. Following his university studies, Matt was inspired to take up the piano by the likes of Phillip Glass, Michael Nyman and Yann Tiersen. Self-taught as a classical pianist, he studied music theory in order to take exams for piano performance and at the same time began composing and scoring pieces for solo piano. More recently, Matt has branched out into orchestral, soundtrack and electronic music, influenced by neo-classical and ambient artists including Brambles, Dustin O’Halloran, Nils Frahm and Max Richter.
Doors will open at 6pm, with concerts going on from 7pm until about 11pm. Please note that you’ll need cash for the bar, the merch table and/or if you want to buy your tickets at the door.
