Fred Thomas

Pianist Fred Thomas plays original and improvised music in a trio featuring saxophonist Robin Fincker and Ben Bryant (drums/percussion). Influenced in particular by a combination of African, contemporary classical and free improvisation, Fred plays 'prepared' piano utilising bluetac, rubber, pegs, coins, plectrums, mallets, and a pandeiro to expand the range of colours in his music. 'Exploring preparation has allowed me to integrate my love of percussion into my piano playing, and has greatly enlarged groove and textural possibilities in free improvisation' (Fred Thomas).
