Event information

Come one, come all to Lazy Sundays at Birmingham's coolest small venue, Tower of Song. Lazy Sundays events run earlier than most at the Tower, starting at 8PM and running until 10PM. Doors are at 7:30PM.

Our address is 107 Pershore Rd South, and just a stone's throw away from the King's Norton train station which comes via New Street in 15 minutes.

Lazy Sundays is proud to present an evening of live music from Gill Sandell.

In the past few years, rising contemporary singer-songwriter Gill

Sandell has played Wembley Arena and the Olympics Opening

Ceremony with Frank Turner, as well as touring Europe, the UK

and Australia as multi- instrumentalist with Emily Barker & The

Red Clay Halo.

Yet Gill is at her most potent performing her own captivating

blend of delicate but lyrical modernist folk: her sweet delivery

disguises a dry wit and some darkly complex, nuanced

songwriting, which is making waves on the UK grassroots folk and

acoustic scene. “An insightful writing style, impressive fiddle and

ethereal harmonies. Beautiful and reflective.” – Maverick

Gill's second solo record 'Light The Boats', features guest

appearances from Adrian Crowley and Chris T-T, guitarist Ted

Barnes, as well as long-term cohort Emily Barker and her fellow

Red Clay Halo members, violinist Anna Jenkins and cellist Jo

Silverston. It was well received and played by BBC Radio 2

(Dermot O'Leary, Bob Harris) BBC 6 Music (Cerys Matthews,

Tom Robinson BBC Introducing) plus other BBC regional stations

and local radio.

Gill has recently finished recording her third album, ‘Songs Of

Our Years’ at Livingston Studios, out on 9th May 2016. She will be

touring with several of her fellow musicians, to accompany the

release. Expect from the new songs - darkly poetic vocals, rich

string and brass arrangements around guitar and piano,

underpinned by a solid rhythm section from Ali Friend (Red

Snapper/ Imagined Village) and Sebastian Hankins (The Leisure

Society).

"This is gorgeous, what a beautiful record" - Bob Harris

“Gill has a beautiful, clear soft voice which more than matches the

sparse strings and rich piano that accompany it. From the first track

you can tell this is an accomplished musician... I am smitten by her

beautiful music.” – For Folk’s Sake
