Indie legends MJ Hibbett & The Validators are back on tour with their first Leeds show for years and a new album 'Still Valid', which lead singer MJ Hibbett describes as "A Greatest Hits of what we've been up to for the past four years!"
Since forming in 1999 they have performed live on Radio One, had a Record Of The Year in Rolling Stone, an Album Of The Day on 6Music, released one of the first ever viral videos, and toured the UK and Europe alongside solo Hibbett performances at the Edinburgh Comedy Festivals. They've done all this independently from record labels - writing, producing, designing and releasing all of their albums themselves. "If we could get access to a pressing plant we'd probably make our own CDs too!" says singer Emma Pattison.
'Still Valid' will be released on iTunes, Amazon and all digital download services on Monday 4 July 2016, with a limited edition CD version available exclusively from the band via their website, www.mjhibbett.co.uk.
Deadwall (Acoustic Set) - Deadwall are a four piece band from Leeds, sometimes loud and sometimes quiet toeing the line between beauty and brutality. Delicate falsettos are supported by wonderfully free guitar, ridged mellotrons and ruined, tape worn arrangements. They meander from glistening chamber pop to the shoegazer moments of college rock - described by the NME as containing "Glimpses of Big Star and the more stoned elements of Dinosaur Jr". Have had support from NME and airplay on 6Music and recently supported The Wedding Present on tour.
It's Faster Stan: Everybody take a stand, join the caravan of love. A one-off special tribute to The Housemartins by some of Leeds' finest musicians for Let's go baboon's series of events for CALM.
The Housemartins were one of the finest acts of the 1980s, from Hull and proud, featuring Paul Heaton, Stan Cullimore, Norman Cook and more. The Housemartins hit the mid-1980s charts with a perfect blend of Socialist ideals, gospel influences, a capella weaved together into mighty jangly guitar pop hooks featuring over 2 glorious albums and several John Peel & Janice Long BBC sessions. They were able to deliver chart success whilst never shifting from their determined anti-Thatcher agenda and local community action. . We salute The Housemartins.
Between March 2016 and November 2016, Let's go baboon is aiming to run a series of 10 shows across 5 cities with 30+ acts aiming to raise over £1,000 and awareness for CALM. The shows are dedicated to the memory of Joss Perry and Vince Sipprell. Each show will aim to raise money on the night and/or contribution from ticket sales toward CALM.
