This 2013 film chronicles Nelson Mandela's life journey from his childhood in a rural village through to his inauguration as the first democratically elected president of South Africa. Directed by Justin Chadwick, it stars Idris Elba and Naomie Harris. It was nominated as best British film at 2014 BAFTAS and Elba was nominated as best actor at 2014 Golden Globes USA. This film sets the scene for a lecture in Ely Cathedral on 16 October by Paul Joseph, a friend of Mandela and fellow activist.
