Come and celebrate the 23rd anniversary of Fierce Panda Records!
It's a little known local fact, but stalwart London-based independent label fierce panda has a satellite office in Stowmarket. Since 1994 this tiny record company has been (ir)responsible for early and pivotal releases by acts with names like Coldplay, Keane, Placebo, The Maccabees, Idlewild, Death Cab For Cutie, and quite-literally-dozens-more.
We are delighted that fierce panda's 23rd birthday party will take place at the John Peel Centre with two of its current highest-flying acts, COQUIN MIGALE and DESPERATE JOURNALIST, and a brace of lovely local guests: ANIMAL NOISE, LEAONE, and DJ SEYMOUR (Washing Machine).
"Gale force guitars and soaring vocals" headliners COQUIN MIGALE are a Newcastle upon Tyne based alternative rock band blending gripping riffs and anthem IOC vocal harmonies. Twice BBC Radio 1's Huw Stephens' discovery of the week and BBC Introducing headliners of R&L 2016, COQUIN MIGALE are not to be missed!
COQUIN MIGALE are from Newcastle. They consist of Alex Soper (guitar/vocals), Stevie Kane (bass) and Josh Holmes (drums) and are pronounced "Co-kane Mig-elle". 'Munro' is their debut album which mixes together COQUIN MIGALE's fizzbombing releases thus far with some cracking Newcy newbies. The band played Reading / Leeds Festival slots on the BBC Introducing Stage last year.
Special guests alt-gothic rockstars DESPERATE JOURNALIST are preparing for the Spring 2017 release of their second album 'Grow Up' a follow up to their 2015 self titled debut.
Desperate Journalist are two boys and two girls who live in North London. They consist of Jo Bevan (vocals), Simon Drowner (bass), Rob Hardy (guitar) and Caz Hellbent (drums). Lured together by fate and a fierce sense of what makes alternative music actually really bloody alternative they started their journey at the local Negative Creep grunge club night in Finsbury Park on February 23rd 2013 and have barely looked back since.
ANIMAL NOISE are three boys from Colchester who return to the JPC after previous fun times for BBC Introducing Suffolk. And 'fun times' is the key phrase for a trio who merrily mix together grunge, psychrock and folkiepop flourishes, as proven by last single 'Little Things'.
LEAONE (pronounced 'Lee-own') is a smouldering new talent from Beccles with a deep, rich vocal sound which has seen him described as the missing link between Leonard Cohen and Lana Del Ray. Expect an EP on fierce panda in the spring, featuring the solemn grandeur of 'Goldtooth'.
DJ SEYMOUR (WASHING MACHINE) is another local boy, steaming across from Bury St Edmunds where he has forged a name for heroically supporting his hometown scene either as frontman of Peel faves Miss Black America and Horse Party or as enthusiastic promoter and endorser of fellow musical dreamers.
