SHOT BY BOTH SIDES
A spektakular soireé of degeneracy and bloodlust!

Shot By Both Sides – London's premier purveyors of arcane, outlandish and fantastical musical delights - launch another sordid spektakular, on Thursday November 20th. This is their first show at the Amersham Arms, and marks a return to the warped wonderland of New Cross, which they last graced over a year ago.

Expect a thrilling soundtrack of wonky psych, gritty '60s garage, gnarled folk, freakout jazz, rockabilly, C86 indie and Northern Soul, poetry, stories, free ‘zines, various handouts, humanoid monstrosities, literature/tape exchange, some peculiar visual treats, cakes, a few out-of-the-hat surprises and some sensational live sets from…

LUPEN CROOK & THE MURDERBIRDS

Gnarled, twisted folk and bleeding-heart candor from Britain's most underrated songwriter. Fresh from delivering second LP 'Iscariot The Ladder', Crook's edge-of-the-ledge, bloody-minded mini-masterpieces pack more high-drama than most can ever aspire to. Intense, bug-eyed and vehement; this will be a performance to savour.

“Utterly compelling” - NME
“Lupen Crook stands alone as one of the few artists around who seriously defies categorisation” – The Fly
“A bewitching talent” – Uncut
“Original and highly concentrated stuff” - Mojo
“…An air of insanity and a genuine edge-of-the-seat brilliance” – The Sun

CAPTAIN BLACK

This thrilling five-piece bring their tales of love, loss, prostitution, brutal murder and heartbroken swine to the hinterland. Their skiffle-flecked sound draws influence from Dylan and The Pogues through to English folklore and Ackroyd’s ‘The Biography of London’. Last single ‘Sister’ – released on the Hawley Arms’ record label, Bumpman – and their white-hot, feverous live show indicate a riotous future.

“One of the best unsigned bands in Britain…they’ve been writing the visceral blues Primal Scream have spent the past 12 years searching for. Played with a whirlwind energy to make it impossible to tear your eyes away…someone make them huge. NOW” – John Earls, Channel 4 Planet Sound
“Mad Londoners whose lyrics read like short stories” – News of the World

LA SHARK

Fast becoming something of a cult, La Shark's erudite 'riddle-pop' and psychedelic neo-skiffle is a giddy concoction. Glorious labyrinthine pop moments that refuse to be pinned-down, complete with rolling pianos and dramatic flourishes. There's precious few that can match the ambition – and the gleeful abandon – of these New Cross upstarts.
