Moose Factory Presents! The Widows, Bird Eats Baby, Troyka and Pink’n’Ruby – November 20, 2008 @ The Cross Kings, Kings Cross, London.
Moose Factory Presents!, the promoters who attempt to bring together the best in leftfield music for all to enjoy, will welcome The Widows, Bird Eats Baby, Troyka and Pink’n’Ruby onto the Cross Kings main stage on November 20, 2008 (126 York Way, Kings Cross, N1 0AX). Doors open at 7.00 and performances start at 8.00. Prices will be £7 or £5 concessions.
Widows present a dark take on Tom Waits and Captain Beefheart spawned by Einsturzende Neubauten. Expect sinister tales of love and death….and placentas.
Bird Eats Baby is a young band from Brighton that have a dark cabaret feel about them. They boast a string section and a lack of guitars and are led by pianist/singer Mishkin. They claim to have been influenced by the likes of Dresden Dolls, Tiger Lilies, DeVotchka and Regina Spektor, but if you can imagine Freddie Mercury getting drunk on Absinthe with Van Gogh (after the ear incident) at the Moulin Rouge you won’t be far off.
TimeOut had this to say about Troyka: 'Empirical keyboard wiz Kit Downes presents his jazz rock/avant funk organ trio, who take direct inspiration from such exremes as Aphex Twin and NYC guitar improv monster Wayne Krantz to create their own blistering sonic attack. Blending hard driving grooves with unrelenting improv, drum tyro Josh Blackmore and guitarist Chris Montague help fuel the noise.' Timeout
Pink’n’Ruby are a unique acoustic duo that have become darlings of the alt-festival scene over the last couple of years. Combining lush ethereal soundscapes with Eastern European melodies and a touch of Brazilian rhythm the pair have an on-stage charisma that few downbeat acts can match. Often appearing in fabulous costume replete with intricate face-painted masks watching Paul Bradbury (vocals, guitar) and Mihaela Repina (vocals, guitar) is a truly immersive and beautiful experience.
The whole evening will be punctuated by eclectic tunes from the Moose Factory DJ vaults.
Lately a there has been a growing number of artists that include theatricality in their performances. Moose Factory have gathered here a selection of some of the finer groups that have a dramatic touch, whether it be in costume or in the cabaret style they incorporate. And, of course, you also need a bit of jazz, don’t you?
