Anita O’Day recorded for Verve at the peak of her career singing the cream of the American Songbook in her own emotive style. She regarded herself to be a musician rather than a singer layering her performances with a raw and passionate realism. Celebrating the life of one of the great jazz Divas, Jo Harrop will bring Anita’s passion and synergy with her songs to life backed by the great Denmark Street Big Band who will be playing these classics from the original Billy May charts.
Jo Harrop is a London based jazz singer who has a warm and captivating voice inspired by Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone and Billie Holiday.
Jo Harrop recently guested on the album ‘Call Me Lucky’ by Alex Webb & The Copasetics, delivering what jazzman.com called ‘a smoothly sumptuous vocal’ on the Webb original ‘End of The Affair’.
The album received four-star reviews in the Guardian and Evening Standard.
