terrace cred. presents:
On their annual outing to the seaside, Sid Griffin brings his 'alt-bluegrass' combo The Coal Porters back to one of his favourite venues, The Greys, where they and their music belong!
Sid Griffin pioneered the alt. country trail as a founding member of the American band Long Ryders (pick up the wonderful Cherry Red 4CD Boxset) and influenced a whole posse of bands.
He's carved out a career as a music historian / writer / broadcaster and, two handsfull of albums and a solo album in, his cherished band continue to blaze the very best brand of music that defies rounding up in any one category.
Kerenza Peacock – fine fiddle and vocals; Paul Fitzgerald – banjo and vocals;
Sid Griffin – vocals, mandolin, harmonica and autoharp; Andrew Stafford, bass;
Neil Robert Herd guitar, sporran and vocals.
'Not your average fish & chips bluegrass, the Coal Porters have expanded their music with broad strokes and fearless execution.' Chris Hillman (Byrds / Flying Burrito Bros)
'Sid Griffin was playing Americana long before it was called that with his Long Ryders and his pioneering spirit lives on in his work with the Coal Porters.' Billy Bragg
'a proper band with albums and tours and a fiddle.' Laura Barton, The Guardian
Support is from Trevor Moss & Hannah Lou - quirky Hastings duo, where they run an acoustic club 'Lantern society'. They've got a great album 'Expatriot' and are here with Sid's seal of approval.
