Laurel Canyon Music is proud to present the launch of Saskia's third studio album. Featuring a new 'all star' band of some of the cream of the UK folk world, this is guaranteed to be a very special night.
The MC for the launch will be Ray Jones
Saskia is a 24 year old independent English singer-songwriter, known for her pure, clear voice and her nu-folk style repertoire. Previously one of the worlds youngest craniosacral therapists, and practicing on Harley Street, London, in 2014 she left it all behind to move to the West country and pursue a successful career in music.
She has since released three E.P.'s (Gentle Heart Collection, The Presence E.P., and Night and Day E.P.), crowdfunded her debut album 'Gentle Heart', and in 2016, and she has supported some big names such as Sally Barker and performed sell out concerts in both large and small venues across South England.
Frequently compared to Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell and Eva Cassidy for her extraordinary vocal tone, Saskia's original songs draw on the genre's of Americana, roots & darker folk music.
After being interviewed on BBC Radio (BBCGlos and BBCrb), reviewed in online blogs (Folk-Phenomena, Jelli Records), magazines (The Living Tradition, What's Afoot Magazine) and featured in papers from Gloucestershire to Norfolk, this young singer-songwriter is leaving a powerful and lasting impression on industry professionals and fans alike.
Following her debut album tour in Feb and March, Saskia embarked on an unusual and successful tour of entirely donation based concerts in October 2016. Something that will likely become an annual event as non profit events are an important part of her career.
To date she has been number 1 in Reverbnation's folk chart for Bristol since August 2015, and was recently nominated for Laurel Canyon Music's Favourite New Artist of 2016 (ranking #7 over all) and Best New Album Of The Year.
2017 will see her releasing and performing her third album with a new 5 piece folk super group featuring; Ciaran Algar (BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award 2013, Horizon Award 2014), Lukas Drinkwater (Seth Lakeman, The Levellers, Emily Barker, Ange Hardy, Three Daft Monkeys), Jack Cookson (BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award Finalist 2016), and Evan Carson (Sam Kelly and the Lost Boys, Seth Lakeman, The Willows. The Changing Room, Ange Hardy PROG Award album of the year with I Am The Morning).

Devon based duo Jacob & Drinkwater have been called ‘stand out new Folk’ by BBC6 Music and ‘inventive and thrilling’ by R2 Magazine. Their November indie release ‘The Burning Low EP’ has garnered airplay and glowing reviews from such quarters as Radio 2’s Folk Show, BBC 6's Tom Robinson, Amazing Radio, BBC Introducing, BBC Bristol, FRUK, Fatea, Spiral Earth, Louder Than War and ‘Whispering’ Bob TV.
Singer- songwriter Tobias ben Jacob first received wider acclaim as part of The Roots Union with BBC Folk Award winners Phillip Henry & Hannah Martin including playing live at Maida Vale Studios and recording in Nashville, Tennessee. After a few years out from music he returned with the 2014 release ’The St Sidwells Session’ and a run of summer festivals including Glastonbury and Larmer Tree.
His honest and original songwriting weaves in themes of love, memory, adversity and hope; ranging from the nostalgic images of a Northern childhood in the shadow of a burnt out mill (Two Wanderers In 1980’s Clothes) to the trials and adventures of life in the 21st Century ‘Oh let me breathe, let me fly, let me live a polyphonic life’ (A Polyphonic Life.)
Lukas Drinkwater is rightly referred to as ‘one of busiest musicians in the UK.’ In demand as a performer and session player in the worlds of folk and jazz he has featured on many acclaimed albums. Currently touring with Ange Hardy, he has also worked with 3 Daft Monkeys, Jim Causley, Lack of Afro, Lucy Ward, Tankus The Henge, Sam Kelly, The Little Unsaid and more.
The duo’s dynamic and emotionally charged live show with all its energy, musical chemistry and spontaneity has drawn comparisons with the virtuosic pairing of John Martyn and Danny Thompson. Jacob's sweeping vocals never fail to captivate, delivering many a spine-tingling moment; the fluidity and precision of his finger-picking underpinned by Drinkwater's nimbly rhythmic double bass; at times sweetly soaring, haunting, percussive and driving, the layers of depth a perfect counterfoil. The added compliment of stirring vocal harmonies nicely rounds off the mix.
