Event information

Fortuna POP! presents The Beat Hotel with...

THE GRESHAM FLYERS
A sextet who are the hybrid of their diverse geographical backgrounds (north, midlands, south and Slough) and the best bits of your record collection, all sprinkled with a little sugar - David Gedge fronting an unruly combination of Sparks and Pulp. Classy, energetic pop, boy/ girl singers, handclaps, and hooks you can hang your duffel coat on. Their debut album “Sex With Stranger” is out now on the wonderful Cherryade records.
"Proper infectious real classic simple indie pop for fans of Belle & Sebastian, Sparks, Smiths and mostly New Order and Wedding Present" (Organ)

TOWN BIKE
Town Bike formed in the summer of 2006 as an overtly-pop reaction to the dull hipster indie rock that dominated the dancefloors of Liverpool's punk scene. Having gained allies in the likes of Steve Lamaqc and Everett True, the band's ode to McFly's fittest member (the Myspace-conquering Dougie) found them a new audience of teens worldwide, and saw them mentioned in the surf-boyband's interview in The Times. More pertinently, their debut EP When Good Kids Go Bad combines the sweet indiepop sounds of Helen Love and early Kenickie with the raw pop-punk of the Ramones and The Queers to brattily addictive effect. Their first tour saw them continue to win the hearts of indie-poppers and punks across the UK, culminating in a gloriously triumphant, sun-drenched set at this year's Indietracks festival. A debut album is currently in the works (to be released early 2009).
"Punk done proper" (Everett True)
"The 33 seconds of Town Bike's Cock Muff Bumhole is the undoubted highlight, outdoing Helen Love in a spurt of surf sixties pop and a tirade of potty mouth lyrics" (Indie mp3)

THE HILLFIELDS
Blame Jarvis... The Hillfields were born in the Royal Festival Hall, overcome by the raw power of Iggy Pop's 2007 Meltdown gig, a beautiful evening, and a choice selection of beers... The line up comprises Rob Boyd (guitar and vocals), Grant Wilkinson (bass) and Carlos Russell (drums). Rob has previously recorded with Ian Catt (Saint Etienne, Trembling Blue Stars), and says “We’re here because of C86, Wire, Sarah Records, The Field Mice, The Chills, Straitjacket Fits and The Clean... their music is a huge inspiration to us.” They’ve released two singles on Cloudberry records and are currently recording tracks for their first album.
“Even down to the Morrissey-esque vocals… imagine a classic indie band writing the soundtrack to a particularly scenic, sweeping art house movie and you’re pretty much there.” (Song By Toad)

JEANS GOES POP!
From Newcastle, Jeans Goes POP! is essentially a one man band. Jeans sings plays piano and drums, knocking out perfectly crafted pop
songs that stick in your head, as radio play from the likes Of Steve Lamacq, Stephen Merchant and Rob Da Bank would confirm. Plus we’re all for anyone with a “POP!” in their name.
“Possesed of a quirky showmanship that nestles somewhere between Ben Folds and David Bowie ...he delivers his songs with genuine heartiness" (Stool Pigeon)

plus DJs playing indiepop, soul, punk and 60s till late
