THVC proudly presents The Coal Porters, a British-American alt-bluegrass band led by former Long Ryder frontman Sid Griffin on vocals and mandolin and featuring Neil Bob Herd on vocals and guitar, Paul Fitzgerald on banjo and vocals, and Andrew Stafford on bass. The line up is completed by renowned classical violinist and soloist with the London Symphony Orchestra Kerenza Peacock on fiddle and vocals.
Their latest album, ‘No6’ was produced by folk-rock legend John Wood of Fairport Convention and Nick Drake fame and features a heartfelt tribute to punk rock legends The Ramones in the form of ‘The Day The Last Ramone Died’ (complete with Gabba Gabba Hey refrain), and a gloriously melancholy reinterpretation of Only Ones classic ‘Another Girl Another Planet, both of which have already become firm fan favourites.
As Kentucky native Griffin explains, ‘The Coal Porters are five musicians who play four chord songs from three countries for two good reasons; for health and for happiness’. Not your typical bluegrass band. This is ‘alt-bluegrass’ and absolutely not to be missed!
