WOMEN

A band currently on Jagjaguwarloved and hotly tipped by industry insiders to make leftfield music enthusiasts stand up and listen in 2009!
With a full page feature in this month's Plan B, and also song plays on Radio 1, 6 music and xfm all this week, its just starting to break on the UK what a band this is....
Women is an indie rock band from Calgary. Members of the band have toured as part of Calgary musician/artist Chad VanGaalen's touring band, and Michael Wallace and Christopher Reimer are also part of the band Azeda Booth. Their eponymous debut album was recorded by Chad VanGaalen, which has gained positive recognition from music publications like Pitchfork Media, PopMatters, Vue Weekly, and the Edmonton Sun as well as other varied music blogs. The album was released on VanGaalen's label Flemish Eye in July 2008, but they then signed with record label Jagjaguwar and their S/T debut album was released worldwide on October 7th 2008 on JagJaguwar and will be released in the U.K in January 2009.
The band's sound has been likened to "sunny Beach Boys pop was dragged into a dark alley and gleefully mutilated", as well as to bands like The Velvet Underground and The Zombies. Pitchfork Media named their song "Black Rice" from their debut album the 18th best track of 2008.
The band is currently touring in support of their debut album in Canada and the US, and are booked to play several dates in Europe, one here at the Brudenell!

+ Wonderswan

Wonderswan was conceived early in 2008 and incubated in a warm pouch by the radiant glow of a shared love for scuzzy 90s lo-fi slacker bands. The fledgling creature hatched in April with the addition of drummer G.E.D who heard the youngster crying out with hunger as he floated by attached to some helium balloons. With the additional nourishment of his frantic c86 style drummings, Wonderswan quickly matured and soon found itself performing alongside some of its own favourite bands, including Times New Viking, No Age, Copy Haho and Lovvers to name just a few. With a live reputation for playing their own songs far too fast, far too loud and falling over on the floor, Wonderswan are carving a niche as the planet Earth’s most ramshackle/charming newcomers.

+ Roseville Grand

Roseville Grand are a six piece Alt Country Rock band from Leeds West Yorkshire formed By Scottish signer/songwriter Neil McLarty. They were formed in January 08 playing their first gig as a support for Kathleen Hasgard and The Guilty Preachers. That night they performed as Neil McLarty and The Rosevilles after a suggestion by original bass player Pete Hughes, to be named after the road out side the venue.
