On the 10th March 1959 hundreds of thousands of Tibetans surrounded the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet\'s capital, fearing that the Dalai Lama was about to be kidnapped or assassinated. The uprising was brutally suppressed by the occupying Chinese troops and the Dalai Lama was forced to flee into exile. The 10th of March is now commemorated as National Uprising Day by Tibetans and supporters across the world. To this day Tibet remains an independent state under illegal occupation
All the proceeds for this concert will go to Zari Tibet Fund, a small organisation based in Frome. The Zari Tibet Fund was set up to raise money for Tibetan refugees living in India who are in need of short term financial support. So far They have been able to help individuals and families with the cost of health care and education. In the near future, They hope to branch out to support local communities as well as projects inside Tibet.
