At times we see artists who stand out as having crafted a unique place for themselves within the genre. Chris Cleverley has emerged as a writer, performer and character who defies comparison, delivering a unique re-sculpting of 21st Century folk music. Described as ‘Impressive’ by The Telegraph, Chris is a true enigma of the UK Folk Scene; at times mysterious and gentle, at others candid and revealing. With soothing delicacy and ferocious vigour in equal measures, Chris is a performer of great dynamics and pronounced contrasts. Chris has crafted a reputation as a songwriter of singular ability with original and traditional material that has resonated deeply with audiences across the UK. His unique brand of contemporary folk contrasts calming, pastoral influences of a childhood spent roaming the foothills of the Brecon Beacons and Cornish coastlines, with the anxious frenzy of an urban mind shaped by 29 years in the UK’s bustling second city. With guitar playing ancestry pulsing through his veins, Chris is fast gaining the accolade of being among the most masterful players on the scene. Continuing the legacy of his heroes such as Nic Jones and John Renbourn, the essence of the folk revival abounds in his memorable music.
Odette Michell appeared at a recent Singers Night and impressed us enough to gain a support slot. Born in Yorkshire to Irish musicians, and raised in Cambridge, she was destined to play folk music. In March she celebrates the launch of a new EP.
