RICARDO CURBELO Harp, Cuatro, Vocals.

"A night of powerful and simply breathtaking music from this master player of the Latin American Harp." (Valleys Roots magazine, Wales)

"A sheer delight to see and listen to". (Arran Music Society, 2016)

Innovative Latin American harpist, composer and poet, Ricardo Curbelo has, from an early age, been an eminent representative of the Latin American poetry and music culture on a wide variety of stages, both both nationally and internationally. Whilst still a young man, he made his name as a poet in his native Colombia, winning international prizes for both poetry and dance.

Ricardo came to the UK in 1979 and has since given many performances both as a soloist and with many other accomplished musicians. He has recorded live for BBC radio and television and Satellite BSB TV. His restless desire to contribute and to open new horizons for his culture, led him to construct a new Latin American harp, and with this instrument, the development and presentation of a unique new wave of poetic music.

On stage Ricardo presents a great combination of traditional pieces from a variety of Latin American countries, together with many of his own spellbinding compositions; vibrant, energetic and jazzy pieces contrasting with more classical, enchanting melodies and tender vocals. The sound of his Modelo Corvado harps adds to the uniqueness of his performances, which continue to take audiences by surprise, as illustrated by a recent concert compliment: "Wonderful introduction into a completely different expression of harp music, beautifully expressed."

Tonight's concert will include compositions from his latest album, Espiritu Llanero / A Londres (Llanero Spirit / To London) and Ricardo is delighted to be sharing the evening with such a fine musician as Fiona Harrison.
