Jill Jackson is an award-winning Americana artist based in Glasgow, UK. Jackson first burst on to the UK music scene as the front woman of rock band Speedway, with whom she scored several UK top ten hits. When the band split in 2005 Jackson embarked upon a career as a solo artist and developed a more authentic Americana musical style. A style far removed from the pop/rock music that made her name. Free from the scripted pop industry slowly the true talents of Jackson emerged.
Shying from the limelight for a few years, Jackson spent a lot of time on the road supporting and touring with artists such as Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart, Albert Lee, Roger McGuinn as well as writing for former Spice Girl Melanie C. Her work has also attracted the attention of the TV and industry, with her songs 'Just Not Myself' and 'Genie In A Bottle' featuring on several UK & International TV shows.
Jill's TwickFolk performance will feature songs from her new album 'Are We There Yet?' Her 5th album, it bears the hallmarks of a 25-year musical journey that has taken her from Paisley to Top of The Pops to playing in every State of America (50 States in 50 Days.....yes really!). Produced by Boo Hewerdine (Eddi Reader, Emily Barker), 'Are We There Yet?' combines innovative, playful arrangements that would not sound out of place in Lindy Hop, Harlem or the heart of the deep South. With an unabashed embrace of gleeful, melodic choruses delivered in Jill’s unmistakeable warm and heart-wrenching voice.
SE London based Folk / Americana acoustic duo, The Gillies have visited TwickFolk many a time - playing floorspots and most recently closing a Singers' night with this song. This evening we're giving them a support slot and expecting big things.
Their music is influenced by americana and folk traditions. In their lyrics they often return to the times when they lived in Norfolk, recollecting places like the iconic Red Lodge Cafe on the A11 and Captain America's Heavenly Hamburgers.
In March, they released a new album 'No Hiding Place'
