"One of the best of the New Wave of Folk Blokes," says fRoots Mag, adding, "As a guitar player and arranger of traditional songs, Jon Wilks already deserves speaking of in the same breath as your Simpsons and your Morays."
Jon originates from Birmingham, which is where most of the traditional songs he performs come from. On his March tour, he'll be playing songs from his recent album, "Midlife", and its follow-up EP, "The Trial of Bill Burn Under Martin's Act", as well as telling the stories surrounding the songs - tales about the old singers and song collectors.
His performance has been described as one part concert, one part history lesson and one part stand-up comedy act.
'Jon's passion informs his live shows, the songs liberally sprinkled with anecdotes ('babysitting' Martin Carthy being a particular gem), humour and history, his singing and personality hugely engaging. He is the sort of performer folk circles mean when they talk of the living tradition.' - Mike Davies, Folking.com reviewer and Alternative Roots presenter.
