London Prog Gigs presents A SUNDAY IN SEPTEMBER - an all-day festival featuring the best in modern progressive rock music.
ADVANCE TICKET SALES ARE NOW CLOSED. TICKETS ARE STILL AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR
Featuring:
ABEL GANZ : Abel Ganz is a group whose origins lie with the second wave of prog rock bands who appeared in the early 1980s. Reborn this century with a new line up, the band released the eponymous 'Abel Ganz' album in 2014. Largely abandoning the neo-prog style of the past to embrace a far broader palette [covering styles such as folk, jazz, classical, and funk] this album increased the band’s profile enormously and rode very high in end-of-year ‘best of’ polls.
July 2020 saw the band release their concept album 'The Life Of The Honey Bee & Other Moments Of Clarity', comprising six thematically linked pieces exploring the relationships with memory and loss. Once again, reception of the new album has proven highly positive, with many critics calling this their best album to date, and again the album featured very highly in end-of-year polls, even landing at top ‘album of the year’ spot for some.
With a history as long as Abel Ganz it is quite remarkable that in 2021 they are now a band increasingly growing in confidence and hitting their creative stride. Based in Scotland, incredibly this will be their first ever gig in London!
THE EMERALD DAWN : The Emerald Dawn are a multi-instrumentalist, symphonic progressive rock quartet, who combine elements from classical music, jazz and rock to produce their own original, distinctive and exciting sound – a sound that is cinematic, epic, experimental and powerful. Usually haunting, often beautifully melodic and always highly atmospheric, the music of The Emerald Dawn paints images or tells stories that stimulate the imagination and takes the listener on unforgettable musical journeys. Their fourth album 'To Touch the Sky' was released in 2021. Based in Cornwall they have played many gigs in the south of England, but this will be their debut London performance.
THE GIFT of GABRIEL: Sadly a recent personal loss has forced The Gift to withdraw from the show. However Gift frontman Mike Morton will still be performing as THE GIFT OF GABRIEL, a duo with old colleague Howard Boder from the top Genesis tribute act The Book Of Genesis, which blends Peter Gabriel classics with the best of The Gift’s repertoire, thus honouring their lifelong hero whilst giving Gift supporters a little of what they like.
IT : Beginning life as a psychedelic, multi-media group, IT is a band with a colossal sound that shakes the bones, with a barrage of images that feeds the mind. IT’s sound fuses the classic melodies of prog rock’s past with a passion and intensity usually only found in punk or metal bands. Politics, religion, war and sexuality all come under the band’s lens for critical examination. Lyrics are intelligent, challenging and occasionally darkly humorous. The bottom line is that the IT experience will inform your thinking, feelings and memory long after the last notes have ended.
HAT’S OFF GENTLEMEN IT’S ADEQUATE : Hats Off Gentlemen It's Adequate are Malcolm Galloway and Mark Gatland, on their own or with Kathryn Thomas (flute). They combine prog/alt-rock, funk, metal, ambient, contemporary classical, minimalist, and electronica elements, and often explore scientific themes. They are recommended by Steve Hackett, and were described by HRH Prog as “unlikely stars who stole the show”
TOM SLATTER : Tom Slatter is a sci-fi singer-songwriter, “a latter-day Victorian street-theatre barker with a guitar promising tales of mystery, imagination, ‘orrible murders and bloody great waving tentacles”. He was once nominated for a prog award and has been trying to atone ever since.
The venue has wheelchair access and an accessible toilet; please contact the organisers if you have any specific requests.
Due to licensing requirements, accompanied under-18s are allowed on site up until 8pm only.
COVID INFORMATION: The Bedford is a pub/restaurant venue, and like all similar establishments they do not operate a vaccination/test and entry system for admission. However they advise that “The health and safety of our customers and staff is paramount. Rest assured we remain meticulous about hygiene, and we are following all the government guidelines during these challenging times. Our staff also continue to be temperature checked on arrival to work.”
The separate live music room is airy and spacious - it will not be ‘rammed’ - plus it has its own bar, so it will not be necessary to re-enter the main pub area for drinks during the afternoon and evening sets. The age demographic of our audience is typical for prog gigs of this type, and it’s likely that everybody will be ‘double-jabbed’. However, in line with guidance from the Music Venue Trust, we encourage you to #TAKEATEST – whether double-jabbed or not, PLEASE take an NHS Rapid Lateral Flow Test within 24 hours prior to attending. Free lateral flow tests are available from local pharmacies or for home delivery by visiting www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests.
Please do not enter the venue if you suspect you might have Covid-19 or if you are showing symptoms – which include those of ‘summer colds’. If in doubt, please don’t come – we’ll refund your ticket on request.
Regarding face coverings, these are not mandatory in the venue, but we’d be very happy if you choose to wear them – please bring one with you (they’re mandatory on the tube anyway), so that you can make your own responsible decision.
