Matthew Collings [http://www.myspace.com/matthewlscollings]
Icelandic based musician Matthew Collings has been described as 'if Kevin Shields was a one-man band playing Steve Reich'. Ranging from tiny delicate moments of intimacy to all consuming noise, resembling Tim Hecker or fellow collaborator Ben Frost. His music is textural, melodic and often sonically overwhelming.
He may be known to Forest of Sound regulars as Sketches for Albinos, under which name he has played sporadic gigs in the UK over recent years, accompanied by groups of guitarists, sometimes numbering up to seven at a time (including members of The Declining Winter, worriedaboutsatan, Glissando, Laymar, Solus Locus, and I Concur). As Albinos, he has already produced two albums of lo-fi lusciousness, for Imoto (UK) and Ropeadope records (USA) respectively.
For his latest projects, under his own name, he is now associated with respected Icelandic label Bedroom Community (of Valgeir Sigurdsson, Nico Muhly, Sam Amidon and Ben Frost fame).
"Surrounding him in an arc which extends around the back of the tiny stage and off both sides stand the seven guitarists he's acquired for the evening. Seven leads feed into his nerve centre, and as seven hands pick out one drawn-out chord he works his magic; tuning and manipulating the sound and folding it back on itself across a background of quietly ticking electronica to fill the air around him with glacially mangificent sonic sculpture. There are two or three such pieces in his set; each building like some submerged orchestra. Ambient but definitely not background, when he draws it to a close it's like being snapped out of hypnosis. Amazing stuff." - Manchester Music
The Window Right [http://www.myspace.com/windowright]
Utterly gorgeous cerebral instrumental music as endorsed by Four Tet and Damo Suzuki. Other people buy up effects pedals and techno wizadry to conceal the fact that their music is badly lacking… but not The Window Right. This is the music of three overly talented chaps hand crafting amazing music from the very best ingredients.
”What makes The Window Right special is the sense of modesty about their music. It’s experimental, and it’s a style of their own, but it never sounds fussy, forced or arrogant.” - www.leedsmusicscene.net
Plus some VERY special secret guests...
