JONQUIL | BRONTIDE | MUNCH MUNCH | THE PATIO SET

Scene Not Herd and Patio Industries are very proud to present an enchanting line-up of musical treats for your ears.

The magical Jonquil kick off their European tour with a very special performance for you lucky London folk. Starting out as an Oxford bedroom recording project, Jonquil expanded to include bouzouki, guitar, violin, drums, flugelhorn and double bass in their lineup. Influenced by the likes of Joan Baez, The Microphones, Akron/Family, Swans and Stars of the Lid, the result was their debut EP ‘Sunny Casinos’ in 2006. This was followed a year later by their first LP proper, Lions, released to much critical acclaim. Currently working on record number three, do see these guys before they set about wowing European audiences with their unique live show.

Next up, Brontide, are an altogether different musical beast. Forming from the ashes of I Was A Cub Scout and Brighton drama-punks Pictures , Brontide are a riff-heavy, intelligent instrumental rock band that possess an almost limitless scope. Drawing upon the influence of Battles, Russian Circles and Don Caballero, as well as playing shows with the likes Dananananakroyd and Blakfish, 2009 looks like an exciting year for Brontide.

Following on, we bring you Munch Munch. This madcap, fucked-up, casio-core, twin-drum assault collective is flawlessly shambollic! Creating something bolted together by a dyslexic Ikea enthusiast building a pop wardrobe. Awry rifts and glittering keys punch their way through the sparklingly chaotic melodies creating a web of harmonious noise strident with vehemence and luminosity.

SNH favourites The Patio Set are slowly but surely making their name known in the DIY scene. A love of Steve Albini is evident in the abrasive yet melodic guitars, whilst driving basslines and juxtaposed drumbeats are always underlined with a pop sensibility. Their first demo spawned the live favourite “Highgate Owl Nightmare”, which can only be described as Shellac vs Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. However, recent shows with Cold Pumas, Shield Your Eyes and That Fucking Tank, as well as a slot at Alan McGee’s Death Disco, have seen the band showcase their newer material. Hinting at more complex, interwoven guitars, as well dance-groove elements to the bass and drums, The Patio Set seem to be coming into their own in 2009, and most importantly, without losing their knack for a tune.
