A night of flamenco and Greek music at the new Jamboree in King's Cross with Leo Power + PAKAW!

Leo Power is a flamenco singer from Andalusia, Spain with a love world music and jazz. Evident in her voice is the flavour of her hometown of Cádiz, the Mediterranean port that for so long was the gateway to the Americas, where Cuban music, Argentinian tangos, jazz, blues, alegrías, tanguillos, bulerías and chuflas meet.

So inextricably linked to its trading history, flamenco meshed itself with the rhythms of Latin guajiras, colombianas, milongas and rumbas that arrived back with the passengers of the returning ships. From this emerged 'Los Cantes de Ida y Vuelta', 'Songs of Departure and Return'. Leo is part of this long and still developing musical history. For the last 18 years Leo Power has travelled with her native music away from Spain. Throughout Argentina, Holland and in the UK she has performed at Glastonbury, London Latin jazz Festival, La Linea festival collaborating with Daniel Melingo, Ronnie Scotts, Salder Wells, The Royal Theater in Dublin to name a few. Her voice and her charisma are always well received and her spontaneity brings something new to each show.

PAKAW! is an the all-female ensemble united in their love for Greek music and all the traditions and historical worlds it touches, from the Balkans to the Greek Islands, from the Black Sea to the mountains of Epirus. Together they push the boundaries of the traditional.

Katerina, Muzmee, Paressa, Olympia and Duygu met in the lively Rebetiko music scene in London. Their diverse musical backgrounds – from Classical to Latin American, from Byzantine Chant to Ska, from Turkish rhythms to Russian Polyphony – provide them with an intoxicating range of colours and flavours to draw upon.

PAKAW!'s performances have a unique energy, always capturing their vibrant audience, be it in London or the beautiful island of Mytilene. They have played extensively across London, including the National Theatre, and have toured to Istanbul and Athens. Following their 'pre-pandemic' London reunion concerts in February 2020, PAKAW! are coming together again for a one-off concert at Jamboree.
