SHOT BY BOTH SIDES - THURSDAY 17TH SEPTEMBER
Behold! A spektakular soireé of degeneracy and bloodlust!
Shot By Both Sides – London's premier purveyors of arcane, outlandish and fantastical musical delights - have risen from the grave. This reanimated corpse shambles into life once more, on Thursday 17th September, at the ever-splendid Brixton Windmill.
Expect a thrilling soundtrack of wonky psych, gritty '60s garage, gnarled folk, freakout jazz, C86 indie and Northern Soul, poetry, stories, free ‘zines, various handouts, literature/tape exchange, some peculiar visual treats, cakes, a few out-of-the-hat surprises and some sensational live sets from the following…
THE MULES
The ‘electrobilly’ purveyors grace ShotByBothSides once more, playing a rare London show. With a sound set somewhere between ‘rinky-dink tin-pot jug-band’ and ‘knees-up Croat wedding group’, this show will feature songs from their forthcoming second LP.
"A charming, beautiful mess...The Mules sprint across as many genres as they can...Bonkers but brilliant" - The Guardian
"An off-beam collision of barn dance, psychedelic whimsy and scratchy funk...Their exuberance was as compelling as their jerky pile-ups were contagious" - Time Out
"...Matching their respect for Taking Heads, Gang of Four and Pere Ubu with a love of skiffle, hillbilly and music hall...an inventive blast" – Uncut
"Some of the most frenzied, unclassifiable party music that you will ever hear" - Drowned In Sound

THE BRIDPORT DAGGER
Bassless, flamenco/garage-folk trio. Rockabilly leanings, stamping primeval drums and a touch of mid-80s gloom abound. Short, sharp and dramatic; a visceral live experience.
"Swinging beats tinged with rockabilly riffs & moody Orbison-esque vocals" - I.D.
"…harnessing the menacing narrative prowess of Nick Cave and the angular guitars and melancholic ghostliness of early Echo & The Bunnymen" - Drowned in Sound

NASEBY FOX
Flitting between sharp-tongued diatribes and droll murder ballads, the wonderfully moustachioed Naseby Fox fronts a quiet riot of piano, accordion and more besides. Never has such a grand, Vaudevillian spectacle graced the streets of Brixton.

MARMADUKE DANDO
Fantastically-named Holloway-based singer - and self-confessed writer of 'morose ballads' - brings his magnificent jazz-flecked chamber-pop to Brixton. Both flamboyant and mannered, his elaborate vocal stylings and playful songs draw as much influence from Alexander Pushkin and DH Lawrence as Bowie and Joe Jackson.
