Event information

POLLY AND THE BILLETS DOUX:

"They take their influences from Jazz greats like Billie Holiday and add a quintessentially english Twist, with divine harmonised vocals."describe as a sumptuous blend of Jazz, Blues, Country, Folk and Gospel", and with the "sexiest voice in the South.

"To a raptuous reception, Polly and the Billets Doux arrived and you'd have thought they'd just finished their encore let alone not started. The whole band knows how to please deftly working with effortless skill, bringing in each instrument and element, layering and lifting it into dreamy blues tinged delights. Welcome to the gospel according to Polly" (Chronicle)

"as polly and the billets doux become more established it is becoming substantially more difficult to actually get into the gigs as they are being sold out as soon as the support acts take the stage. I never cease to be amazed by this band, their live performances are astounding!"

Support comes from:

THOMAS DENVER JONSSON:

The indie-troubadour Thomas Denver Jonsson from Sweden is coming back to the UK for a new string of shows in October. His latest album THE LAKE ACTS LIKE AN OCEAN (kite/shellshock) was released internationally last year and received very good reviews and he was compared to stuff like M Ward, The National, Bonnie Prince Billy and Cat Power. The Times listed him as one of six acts that have taken the Swedish pop scene forward since ABBA, The Word put him on their covermounted cd. Also very good words in The Sun, Independent, Uncut, BBC6, Rock Sound, RocknReel, Americana UK and more.

His 2009 started with touring with the American pop artist Josh Rouse in Sweden, then went on with touring on his own in Poland and Germany and during summer he's been playing in Sweden with a big selection of songs from his forthcoming album ARCTIC, scheduled to be released somewhen next year. As the title hints it is a conceptual album about polar expeditions, at the same time it's his most personal material to date. Compared to the previous catalog it'll be more edgy, bluesy and minimalistic with the feet based in folk tradition but still with experimental and contemporary details.
