Who would have ever thought it? Last year Spare Snare hit the big 30. Rather than resting on their collective laurels though, they are set to release their twelfth studio album (excluding compilations and the BBC sessions box set) and hit the road again. New album, The Brutal is the second album recorded with Steve Albini, and the first of brand new songs which the band worked on throughout 2022 before decamping to record in sunny Leith with Mr. Albini and Idlewild’s Rod Jones. And it’s an absolute cracker, ten superb new songs of the highest quality, released on Chute Records on 12th May.

As long-term fans, The Cool Cat Club and Spare Snare go way back, and we are super-excited to be promoting the hometown show again. Despite a combined age that may well require another 0 on that 30 to encapsulate, live, Spare Snare are an energetic, high-octane experience with an ever-expanding back catalogue and line-up. Their last Dundee gig, giving a first live outing of the songs that would subsequently be recorded for The Brutal, was an absolute joy in a tiny venue, one man down, so it will be a blast to see and hear them again on a bigger stage.

The Brutal is released on Friday 12th May.

Support comes from Glasgow based Scottish Faultlines and Dundee based Concept Car. Scottish Faultlines is one man, Hugh Haggerty who describes himself as ‘Beardy bloke singing kinda’ folky, indie pop songs. Mostly wearing a hat’. They played their debut show supporting Spare Snare at the Hug ‘n’ Pint last September. Concept Car are a one man swelter of sound, so new, the plastic covers are still on the seats.
