SIC ALPS are, in our humble opinion, one of the most exciting bands in the world right now. Along with Magik Markers (with whom they're about to tour America's West Coast and release a split record on YIK YAK) they are one of the only groups that are simultaneously invoke and transcend the Rock and Roll idiom. At once becoming part of the canon and blazing a trail right through it, Reverential and Snotty and 100% unironic.
Live, as anyone who saw their riotous set at Islington Mill last year would attest , they are electrifying; veering between woozy pop nuggets and full-on atonal skronk within the same song.
Since their last appearance they've added a member (Ty Segall) and further refined their sound, making them an even more imposing spectacle. Drag City have recently reissued the singles and rarities compilation 'A Long Way Around A Shortcut' which includes the ridiculously-hard-to-find 'Description of the Harbour' EP originally released on Chris Johanson's AWESOME VISTAS label.
Along with Thee Oh Sees and Ty Segall they've reinvigorated/resurrected the San Francisco Garage Rock scene.
And in a time when even your heroes have their songs on adverts their independent spirit is admirable. They have no myspace (but you can listen to songs and watch videos at www.sicalps.com) and have put records and tapes out on pretty much all of the coolest independent labels- their own Folding Tapes imprint, Animal Disguise, Mt St Mtn, Woodsist, Siltbreeze, Slumberland, 777 was 666, Skulltones and the previously mentioned AWESOME VISTAS and Drag City. This is a band you can believe in, this is a band you can LOVE.
Here is what some other people said:
"modern rock and roll at its finest...Truly wonderful from start to finish, if you've been bewitched by bands like No Age and Times New Viking, Sic Alps are likely to win you over in a big way." -Boomkat
"Incredible, Raw, Psychedelia"- Thurston Moore
"This is a band YOU MUST SEE" - Byron Coley
TY SEGALL, as well as playing the drums with Sic Alps, has also released a slew of garage-pop on various labels, most recently John Dwyer's Castle Face and the legendary memphis garage shack GONER. We've managed to persuade him to play his old one-man-band set (He's since ditched it for a band) for the first time ever in the UK. watch a video here:

It's no secret that FORMER BULLIES are one of our favourite bands of all time and they are in a patch that is totally purple right now. When John Peel said of the Fall "always different but always the same" he could just as well have been talking about these guys. Expect some serious jams to be played and look out for some heavy forthcoming records.

Brown Brogues kind of came out of nowhere (maybe WIgan) and were a real sweet surprise. Catchy, scratchy (cat scratchy?) heavy pop songs drenched in revvveeeerrrbbb, What's not to love?

Getting the ball rolling are IRMA VEP who'll bring their round-the-world-in-80-licks-timeless-guitar-vibes. Trippy, shroomy, psychedelic slooooww jams.
