Event information

Given his busy touring schedule with with My Darling Clementine, Michael Weston King solo shows are a rare thing these days, so we are delighted he will be joining us at What’s Cookin’ as he continues to tour in support of his latest solo album "The Struggle". Michael is the former leader of UK Alt Country pioneers The Good Sons, the band who played Americana in the UK before anyone knew what it was. They made 4 ground breaking and critically hailed albums in a seven year career, which was celebrated by the double album, Cosmic Fireworks-The Best of The Good Sons (1994-2001). In that time they worked ,and toured with Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, Steve Earle, Joe Ely, Joe Henry, and Blue Rodeo.

From 1999 – 2010 he toured the world as a solo artist, and collaborating with the likes of Nick Cave, John Cale, Roger McGuinn, Nils Lofgren, America, Chris Hillman, Ron Sexsmith, and many more. He released 6 studio albums, 3 live albums and a career retrospective dvd, The Crowning Story, along the way. For the past ten years he has been half of the brilliant country soul duo My Darling Clementine with his wife Lou Dalgleish. Together they have toured widely across Europe and N.America, and released 5 much loved and much lauded albums, the latest being Country Darkness, a collaboration with Steve Nieve re-interpreting the songs of Elvis Costello. The live show will feature songs from The Struggle album, as well as favourites from his 25 year / 19 album career.

But this is a rare solo appearance following the release of a new album, The Struggle, his first solo album in eleven years. It has been duly hailed;

"The Struggle is an album that should be considered one of the elite singer-songwriter records of the still relatively young 21st century" THE PHILADELPHIA INQUIRIER
"A genuine masterwork from the forerunner of Americana and British Country. A staggeringly good album" UNCUT
"What a return this is. Every single track is a masterpiece" ROCK'N'REEL
"Michael Weston King has a voice part Nashville balladeer and part Alt Country hero...a cross between Nick Cave and Rodney Crowell" THE INDEPENDENT
