From the tune “The Three Trumpeeters” (Nicholas Payton, Wynton Marsalis, Roy Hargrove) this Brighton based group take hard bop trumpeting to a whole new level. Unashamedly rooted in the jazz traditions of the 1950’s and 60’s, the group exemplify the writing of Art Blakey, distinctive arrangements of the classic Blue Note era and emulate the great be-bop trumpeters.
Gabriel Garrick’s own jazz lineage is well known and his powerful, high note pyrotechnics have shades of Dizzy, Roy Eldridge and Fats Navaro. A tireless educator he is a well known figure on both the London and Brighton jazz scene.
Robbie Robson was a national finalist in the Young Jazz Musician of the Year 1999, and the runner up in the Perrier Young Jazz Musician 2000. Robbie leads his own band ‘Dog Soup’, and with the Matt Wates Septet, Frank Griffiths Nonet and the London Jazz Orchestra. He has also played and worked with John and Jacqui Dankworth, Jamie Cullum, Phil Woods, Tony Bennett and JTQ
Chris Coull’s style is solidly based in the playing of Clifford Brown, Lee Morgan with perhaps more than a hint of mid-life Miles. His own groups have seen him play as far afield as the middle east, and has performed at Jazz At The Lincoln Centre, and various UK festivals.
Rot Hilton (piano) George Trebar (Double Bass) and Joe Edwards (Drums) combine to make the perfect foundation on which the house of bop is built. Always swinging, their influence on the 3 front-men is as strong as each trumpet player returns back, with interest!
