Celebrating Oscar Peterson and the Saxophones
International star pianist extraordinaire and artistic director of Ronnie Scott’s James Pearson teams up with acclaimed Cambridge based saxophonist Tim Boniface for a swinging journey through material recorded by Oscar Peterson and the legendary saxophonists with whom he cut some amazing albums - Ben Webster, Sonny Stitt, Zoot Sims and Lester Young.
One of the most highly respected and versatile pianists in the UK, James Pearson brings his signature virtuosity and showmanship to this fabulous programme. James’ trio will be completed by the amazing Jeremy Brown, indisputably one of Britain’s top jazz bassists and choice for some of the greatest jazz stars on their tours to the UK; and Sophie Alloway (“the goddess of groove”, Jazz FM), one of the most sought after drummers on the scene at the moment and a player of remarkable ability and experience. Tim Boniface completes the group with his irrepressible swing, energy, and a mastery of the classic jazz saxophone sound.
Girton College offers the perfect setting for this stunning concert - a College steeped in progressive history, where Tim Boniface is the Chaplain and James Pearson a musician in residence.
