Oxjam is your chance to fight poverty with music. Oxjam is Oxfam’s month long music festival with a difference. Every year, hundreds of music events of all shapes and sizes are organised by volunteers across the country. This year, Oxjam has two main objectives concerning the outcome of these events: raising money to help end poverty and promoting Oxfam’s climate change campaign.

What does Oxfam do?
Oxfam responds in emergencies to save lives; works with people to improve their lives and prospects through longer term development programmes; and campaigns on the issues that we believe will achieve lasting change and an end to poverty.

WATCH OUT FOR:

An Oxjam cd is being sold in various venues with tracks from various local bands, grab it while you can for only £1!

HEADLINE ACTS

Oxjam Blackburn is proud to present to you the following headliners:

SCREAMING LIGHTS- www.myspace.com/screaminglights 41 King St: 10pm
Liverpool's Screaming Lights are definitely ones to watch for 2009. The band has already impressed both NME and audiences supporting The Editors and Mystery Jets. With their big sounding indie-anthems and dance sounding keyboards it's hard to deny this young band's flair for catchy songwriting. The band will keep playing club-dates all over UK in winter and spring. Screaming Lights are receiving airplay from Tom Robinson, Zane Lowe Radio 1 keeps playing GMN and XFM also had this track in rotation. NME have already featured GMN in their news section "What’s on the NME stereo?" The band has supported The Editors and have toured with The Mystery Jets as support act on their latest tour.
(SCREAMING LIGHTS PRESS RELEASE) SINGLE- ‘HELLO TOMORROW’ OUT NOW (28/9/09)

CHARLOTTE O’CONNOR www.myspace.com/charlottesoul 41 King St: 11pm
‘’At only 18, Charlotte O'Conner has already laid the foundations of what will no doubt be a long and successful career in the music industry. The beautiful, confident and often too modest singer songwriter from Blackburn has, since signing with The Mel Bush Organisation (Led Zeppelin, Queen, Sir Elton John, David Bowie, David Essex, Vanessa Mae ) in 2007, has built a cult internet fan base of well over 800,000 already. This attracted the brand ‘Quiksilver’, who Charlotte now works closely with as an official ambassador. In December 2008, Charlotte signed a worldwide record deal with Columbia Records, and is currently putting together her debut album.’’ (Charlotte O’Connor website: www.charlotteoconnor.com)
