Gabriele Strata is quickly establishing himself as one of the leading Italian pianists of his generation. In 2021 he was awarded by Teatro La Fenice the historical Premio Una Vita nella Musica Giovanni for his artistic achievements, and in 2023 he won First prize and Audience Prize at the Third Rio de Janeiro International Piano Competition.
Hailed as a talent of “extraordinary sensitivity and perfect technique (Il Sole 24 Ore), Gabriele regularly steps onto the world’s most renowned stages, including concerto appearances at the Berliner Philharmonie with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, in London’s Barbican Centre and Cadogan Hall, Teatro La Fenice in Venice with Orchestra Teatro La Fenice, in Cardiff’s St. David’s Hall with the Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra, and in Mumbai’s National Centre for the Performing Arts with the Chamber Orchestra of India, working with conductors such as Umberto Benedetto Michelangeli, Roberto Tibiriçá, Baldur Brönnimann, Andreas Wittmann, Michael Bell and Hans Richter.
Regularly performing a wide-ranging repertoire from baroque to contemporary, Gabriele recently gave his debut at Wigmore Hall, proclaimed as “a recital of perfected creativity, pinning his name to posterity” (Crepuscular Musings). The 2024 season highlights include extensive tours in China, Brazil, Japan and Italy. Among other praised recitals are the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Sala Verdi in Milan, Sala Cecilia Meireles in Rio de Janeiro, Laeiszhalle in Hamburg, Philharmonic Hall in Bratislava. His performances are regularly broadcast on Italian National Radio (Rai 3) and on television (Sky Classical).
An avid chamber musician, he has played at Wigmore Hall and Milton Court Concert Hall in London, Lincoln Center in New York, and has premiered chamber music works by Academy Award nominee Thomas Newman and Pulitzer Prize finalist Kate Soper.
Gabriele received his Master of Music degree from Yale University aged 19, as well as a Master of Musical Arts degree under the guidance of Professor Boris Berman. He obtained Artist Diplomas degrees from the Accademia Nationale di Santa Cecilia cum laude and special honours, and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under the tutelage of Benedetto Lupo and Ronan O’Hora respectively.
