Event information

On the eve of the 22 December 2009, you, and your kin, are cordially invited to join us for a festive soiree of the musical kind.

Catch this very special Christmas show, where the best up and coming bands will entrance you with their own kind of sonorous magic, as well as playing the odd seasonal classic, if you're lucky.

Bands Playing Live

Action Beat (Southern Records) are an intense semi-improvised noise/no-wave punk ensemble, inspired by early Sonic Youth, The EX, Glenn Branca and other avant guitar ensembles. Based a core of five musicians, but often expanding to as many as fourteen for live shows, a normal gig will have at least three guitarists, a bassist and between one to four drummers, with some shows including saxophone, trumpet and violin. In the wrong hands, such overly-enthusiastic stage overpopulation can lead to muddy indifference - Action Beat, however, concentrate their excess into focused, yet ragged, grooves punctuated by bursts of screeching avant-punk noise and evil disco rhythms. Their blistering live shows are a riot of urgent punk energy and frequently descend into chaos (and sometimes semi-nakedness), so it's not surprising that they've gained much recognition in the UK and Europe.

Artefacts for Space Travel sound like the Pixies after a high dose of morphine; the group are unpredictable, savage, demented... but ultimately great communicators. Their songs aren't simply jams: they're glimpses into a dark future, with heartbreaking melodies and all. Things come alive every time Joe Walsh unleashes his adolescent wail. It's endearing and lonely, touched with a sense of the genuine.

Dead Wolf Club is a fast-fretted, noise-loving post-punk band. Their new wave energy will get you panting like ten minutes on the travelator. Their intense, complex dimensions, coupled with their desolately hopeful musings create an optimistic aura of joyful malaise; despondent yet wholly uplifting. Drawing comparisons with the likes of These New Puritans, Die! Die! Die! and Nine Black Alps, this lot are clearly a ferocious force; exuberant in their audacious, candid spectacle.

No Cars are endearing in their innocence. Their twee melodies and uplifting, heartening guitars, extravagant in their simplicity, create a cheerful, lively atmosphere.
