Event information

I am very sorry to have to say this but due to a family emergency Geoff Farina has had to cancel this show at the Luminaire tomorrow and the rest of the tour so he can head home. We will offer full refunds if you can bought a ticket or you can come and see Chris Brokaw still and Jason Molina has very kindly stepped in to play some songs with chris and some solo songs.

Chris Brokaw
Codeine/Come/The New Year/The Thurston Moore Band/Dirt Music/Evan Dando Band/Lemonheads/Steve Wynn band/The Chris Brokaw Band
Chris Brokaw is one of the hardest working musicians in America and known throughout as a true gentleman. A truely great guitarist also blessed with a deep soulful songwriting skill and a dry smokey voice.
He was a founding member of Codeine; the band that started the Slowcore scene in the late 80s, then he formed Come with Thalia Zedek, now drums in The New Year , plays guitar for Thurston Moore and Evan Dando and with a wealth of other high achieving acts-oddly including drumming for excremental performance punk GG ALLIN. Chris Brokaw is a rare humble genius and one of the finest solo artists of our times. His second solo album "An Incredible Love" is regarded by many as one of the great records of all time
"one of the best performers in the country" Time Out New York
"ravaged but beautiful beyond belief, reflecting both the dark, blues-strung grief of Come, and the lean-lined, horizon-fixed heft of Codeine"- Time out London
"Brokaw proves himself as an intriguing, highly singular lyricist and vocalist as well as the most mesmerising indie guitarist since The Durutti Column's Vini Reilly." (4/5 Stars) London Evening Standard

Lazarus Clamp
Lazarus Clamp (Bearos/Little Red Rabbitt Collective)
http://www.myspace.com/lazarusclamp
Lazarus Clamp have been making music under this name for
15 years and released 5 albums to date.
They have been described in a Drowned in Sound
review as one of the "undiscovered, roughcut gems of British
independent music." They have played at SXSW, at Summer
Sundae and have toured/played with Giant Sand, Chris
Brokaw, David Grubbs, Julie Doiron, Songs:Ohia, Laura
Cantrell, Herman Dune,Thee More
Shallows and The New Year.
What do they sound like?
The feel of the music is intimate, dynamic, and full of
counter-intuitive little surprises. The influences of North
American post-punk bands (e.g. fIREHOSE, Silkworm, Sonic
Youth) tangle with folk sensibilities from both sides of the
Atlantic (e.g. Waterson Carthy, Carter family) and a low-key
commitment to articulate songwriting (e.g. Go-Betweens,
Mountain Goats). What you'll notice, however, is that they
have a certain Englishness that sets them apart from the
American bands to which they are most easily compared, and
which at times might bring to mind a more angular and
introspective take on The Mekons, or a less puppyish Broken
Family Band.

THE BIG ISSUE: "Rather wonderful."
THE GUARDIAN: "Delicate and subtle dynamics.
"9/10-Vastly underrated, wonk-pop gold, the midlands answer to Modest Mouse?" Subbaculture

Former Utopia
http://www.myspace/com/formerutopia
"Radio 6/Resonance FM featured East London born, X-Lazarus Clamp bassist is a genre defying intelligent edgy song smith that producing the kind of mortally sad, black humoured alt. folk that reminiscent of Lambchop, Mountain Goats and on occasion Shellac." Silver Rocket
"a gentleman blessed with an imposing baritone halfway between Bill Callahan and Absentee." The Line of Best Fit
+
Your New Friend
Quirky folky acoustic duo featuring Simon from smallgang.

Please note discount tickets are available if you wish to purchase one for both this show and the one at Bardens on the 18th.
