LAST HARBOUR
Last Harbour are a Manchester-based band playing rustic, cinematically atmospheric songs that rattle and loom, at once epic and intimate, harsh and beautiful. Using instrumentation that might traditionally be associated with folk music, the band instead hammer and sculpt their music into unusual and beguiling forms, sometimes shot through with corruscating feedback but sometimes left to drift, ghost-like. This is music with a strong emotional content, both bitter and beautiful. The band effectively operate as a collective of like-minded musicians, all of whom are involved in other artistic work including illustration, photography, film-making and recording.
Their new album ‘Volo’ is set for release in February 2010 and was co-produced by the band and Richard Formby (Wild Beasts, Herman Dune, Spacemen 3, Dakota Suite). From dusty laments to doom-filled rock, from starkly beautiful duets to drifting clouds of looped noise, there’s always an intensity that strikes hard. It’s a highly original record featuring the band’s strongest songs and most creative arrangements of their career to date. It will be coming out on Little Red Rabbit (home of Fuzzy Lights, Lazurus Clamp and Kalbakken), a label lovingly tended by several members of Last Harbour.
