PENNYBLACK MUSIC WEBSITE PRESENTS…
After previous nights at the sadly-defunct Spitz, and then at the Brixton Windmill last November, our new home is the Half Moon Herne Hill.
TELEVISION PERSONALITIES
Pennyblackmusic is extremely excited to announce the legendary Television Personalities as the headliners for March 20th. Cult legends in every sense of the word, the band formed in 1977 while still at school; their EP the following year, “Where’s Bill Grundy Now?” contained the legendary ‘Part-Time Punks’ – a long-time favourite of John Peel, and still a classic track of its kind today. Led by the legendary and idiosyncratic Dan Treacy – the band’s one constant – the band’s mixture of neo-psychedelia, pop and punk spread over nearly twenty albums has inspired generations of devotees, including everyone from Creation Records to Kurt Cobain. The band’s colourful and erratic history – taking in addiction, homelessness, nervous breakdowns, insanity, numerous line-up changes, and all points in-between – have ensured that while they may never have reaped huge commercial success, they most definitely have never been boring. Their presence on the bill promises to cap a very special night, and a launch for their new, as yet untitled album. Don’t miss.

OF ARROWE HILL
Purveyors of the finest punk-tinged psychedelia, Of Arrowe Hill’s various line-ups have been “through a cast of 1000s”, including members of The Left Outsides and others. They’ve released four albums - the latest of which, “A Few Minutes In The Absolute Elsewhere”, will be launched at this gig – and have undertaken Peel sessions when the great man was still alive. Shrouded in an air of cult mystery, the band have courted the approval of the likes of Julian Cope (who has quipped, “the best and most disconcerting psychedelia I’ve heard these past coupla years”) and Mojo magazine, who have observed, “the sound of a band falling down a very large flight of stairs”. We’re not sure if this is meant as a compliment.

THE PONY COLLABORATION
London/Cambridge eight-piece The Pony Collaboration mine the kind of sobering alt-country/chamber-pop that has drawn comparison with the Tindersticks, Sparklehorse, The Delgados, and others. Their self-titled debut album, released on Series 8 records, was Drownedinsound.com’s DisCover album of the month, and since then they’ve released a follow-up, ‘If These Are The Good Times’. Prepare for some bewitching, bittersweet beauty.

THE REBEL
The Rebel needs little introduction. Formerly the frontman of legendary ‘art-punk’ band The Country Teasers, The Rebel bestrides the musical colossus with songs such as ‘Why Must I Pay?’, ‘Scarlett Johansen Conceiving the Design’, and ‘Iran’s Nuclear Threat’. The Rebel will be opening tonight’s proceedings – get there early to hear the man’s booming lyrical genius.
