Rock n Roll Theatre in association with Caravanserai Productions presents

"DANNY AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA" by John Patrick Shanley (MoonStruck, Joe Versus The Volcano, Doubt).

1 hour length

" A tale of love, loss, hope and passion"

The setting is a rundown bar in the Bronx, where two lonely misfits, Danny and Roberta, strike up a halting conversation over their beer.

He is brooding, self-loathing and possibly homicidal; she is tormented, guilt-ridden and possibly suicidal. Danny, "the animal", seems incapable of tender emotion, while Roberta, an alcoholic, is distrustful of men in general.

And from the second they start talking, its an explosive prize fight with a ringside view! Both are combative and deliver each other a barrage of lightening-quick verbal jabs with a sequence of knockout psychological punches.

Yet, despite this initial tough reserve, a touching tenderness emerges between them.

And thanks to the playwright's skill and brutal honesty, both characters are forced to probe within themselves to find an exorcism for their loneliness, and perhaps even some self-forgiveness albeit painfully achieved.

Danny And The Deep Blue Sea could almost be described as a brutal fairy tale; a Bronx variation on Beauty and The Beast

- and the theatrical equivalent of a shot of ouzo!!
