Hey! Manchester presents The Climbers plus The Mariner’s Children and Tristram

We’re excited to welcome Wilkommen Collective ‘studio super-group’ The Climbers to Manchester! The Good Ship is the first album by The Climbers, a Willkommen studio project featuring members of The Leisure Society, Sons Of Noel & Adrian, The Miserable Rich, Shoreline, Christian Silva, Absentee and more. Recorded in South London, Brighton, Burton-On-Trent, Wales, Devon and Northumberland, The Good Ship is a debut that captures in full the sounds of houses packed with friends making music, as it happened. It’s an album to immerse yourself in.

The Climbers are named after trips to the Lake District taken by chief songwriter Tim West, his school pal Christian Hardy and legions of musical friends. Tim and Christian’s friendship began on their first such excursion from their home town of Burton Upon Trent, a school field trip during which they found a shared fixation on OK Computer, Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers and death. Schoolboy sessions on Tim West’s songs began at his parent’s house, with Christian Hardy picking out parts on the family piano. (During this period, Tim was to introduce Christian to Nick Hemming during Climbers sessions, leading to the formation of The Leisure Society.) Since then Christian and Nick have been helping Tim to craft The Good Ship in between their work recording and promoting their own debut album.

‘This is a hugely accomplished album from a bunch of very talented guys and gals. The familiar sounds of the much-loved Willkommen Collective are there, but come through the other side sounding very different’ – The Line of Best Fit

Support for this intimate show comes from two Wilkommen-related groups: The Mariner’s Children and Tristram, who both have EPs out on Broken Sound (home of Forest Fire, Peggy Sue and Rachael Dadd) in October. We’re delighted to have them along for the ride.
