The Pains of Being Pure at Heart are a New York four-piece who play genius noisy pop songs with boy/girl vocals, blissful melodies, fuzz guitar and blistering drums. Despite only having been together for a couple of years The Pains of Being Pure at Heart are one of the buzz American bands of the moment. Tipped as one of five to watch in 2009 by Pitchfork founder Ryan Schreiber on ABC news, their self-titled debut album on Fortuna POP! collected every accolade under the sun and featured prominently in the 2009 'Best Of' lists of Pitchfork, NME and Rough Trade Shops, to name but a few. They wowed the crowds at ATP, SXSW, Primavera, Roskilde and The Isle Of Wight festivals and stormed the UK with some incredible tours, including sold out shows at London's The Garage, Scala and Heaven. 14 ICED BEARS
Formed in 1985 by Rob Sekula, 14 Iced Bears ably blended shambolic pop with a psychedelic punk edge that set them apart from their C86 contemporaries. Inspired by bands like the Stooges, Velvet Underground, 13th Floor Elevators and Echo & the Bunnymen, Sekula injected the then-nascent indie-pop sound with a twisted dose of noise and experimental menace. While still owing plenty to the Byrds/Ramones influences evident in the output of labels like Creation and Pink, it was this dark 60s flavor that always set the 'Bears apart.
