MIE is extremely honoured to present to you an amazing double bill of Tim Hecker and Gate. With more than able support from Astral Social Club.
GATE
Gate is Michael Morley from the seminal New Zealand noise rock band, the Dead C, and this will be his first Uk tour ever after 20 years of existence. The Dead C were asked to play at Godspeeds ATP this December and Michael is playing the show on the back of that weekend in support of his first album in 10 years, A Republic of Sadness, and as Stereogum says "finds Morley affixing those intimately noisy sheets of guitar and suffocated vocal drones over increasingly danceable beats, space-cramming loops, tranced-out electronics, strange funk moments, and a slew of unidentifiable hypnotic nocturnal rumbles". And that fans of contemporary experimental/psychedelic/dance/drone (Oneohtrix Point Never, Svarte Greiner, Salem, etc.) along with the older school of '90s Union Pole, Chocolate Monk, Road Cone, Twisted Village, Xpressway, the stuff covered in Chemical Imbalance, etc. will all probably love it, not to mention fans of the Dead C and Tim Hecker.

Tim Hecker
Tim Hecker makes a triumphant return to Manchester this December after being invited to play at the Godspeed ATP.
Tim Hecker is a Canadian-based musician and sound artist, born in Vancouver. Since 1996, he has produced a range of audio works for Kranky, Alien8, Mille Plateaux, Room40, Force Inc, Staalplaat, and Fat Cat. His works have been described as "structured ambient", "tectonic color plates" and "cathedral electronic music". More to the point, he has focused on exploring the intersection of noise, dissonance and melody, fostering an approach to songcraft which is both physical and emotive. The New York Times has described his work as "foreboding, abstract pieces in which static and sub-bass rumbles open up around slow moving notes and chords, like fissures in the earth waiting to swallow them whole".
His Harmony in Ultraviolet received critical acclaim, including being recognized by Pitchfork as a top recording of 2006. Radio Amor was also recognized as a key recording of 2003 by Wire magazine. His work has also included commissions for contemporary dance, sound-art installations, minimal techo works under the name 'Jetone', as well as various writings.
Tim has presented his work in a live setting around the world, including performances at Sonar (Barcelona), Mutek (Montreal), Primavera Sound (Barcelona), Victoriaville (Quebec), Vancouver New Music Festival (Vancouver), and Transmediale (Berlin). He currently resides in Montreal.
One of Canada's most celebrated sound artists imbuing electro-magnetic b-rolls with humanity and grace.
