Event Information
Making dynamic new music firmly rooted in the old-time Appalachian tradition, American duo Hen’s Teeth (Jane Rothfield and Nathan Bontrager) are multi-talented musicians on fiddle, cello, clawhammer banjo and guitar. Fiddle and clawhammer banjo phenomenon Jane (Pennsylvania, USA) has been playing old time and traditional folk music for over 30 years and currently performs with numerous musical projects and bands, including contra dance supergroup Coracree, Great Big Taters with Hilarie Burhans and Little Missy with her daughter Shona Carr, as well as the Hen’s Teeth duo with Nathan. Nathan Bontrager is a unique and versatile musician, from the North Eastern USA but currently based in Germany. As well as being a world-class cellist, he has performed throughout Europe and the US as an old time fiddler, clawhammer banjo and guitar player, and is also a member of UK/US trad band Root & Branch. Special guest Gina Le Faux is a renowned Sheffield-based mandolin, fiddle & guitar player, expert in various styles and well known on the Yorkshire folk scene.
**PLUS** old time music workshop (fiddle, clawhammer banjo, mandolin, cello) in the afternoon prior to the concert – Jane Rothfield, Nathan Bontrager and Gina Le Faux are all experienced music tutors and extremely talented players on fiddle, clawhammer banjo, cello, mandolin and guitar. Gina will join Jane and Nathan in teaching a couple of old time tunes from West Virginia and the Round Peak area of North Carolina. Not suitable for complete beginners - early intermediate level and above, please. The precise make-up of the workshop groups will be decided on numbers of interested players of each instrument. Numbers will be strictly limited, advance bookings only. For more details of the workshop please visit www.truenorthpromotions.co.uk
