Young devil, Pug, is desperate to visit earth and corrupt mankind, so Satan places him with a human master for one day. But poor Pug can’t cope with the moral cesspool of London life and finds himself made an ass at every turn as he’s caught in the middle of a frantic whirl of deceit, corruption and trickery between master Fitzdottrell, conman Meercraft, young gallant Wittipol and Fitzdottrell’s stunning wife. Can Pug make it through the day and back to the safety of Hell ?
The play is a vicious satire on the moral corruption of mankind, specifically London, and on the greed for money and power that drives us. It’s fast paced and very funny with colourful characters and ridiculous set ups.
Running time will be around 90 minutes with no interval
The Rose Playhouse, Bankside’s first theatre, 1587. The Rose is an indoor archaeological site, it is advisable to dress with an extra layer as there is no heating. There are also no toilets so please use Shakespeare’s Globe just a few hundred meters away.
