Event information

We’re making up for the fact that North End won’t be in the playoffs this season by organising our own Saturday afternoon kick off at the end of May, reminiscent of midweek 80s fixtures at Preston’s legendary Twang Club. If John Peel sessions are the rock equivalent of England caps, Nightingales mainstay Rob Lloyd is in Bobby Moore territory, with only The Fall and The Wedding Present notching up more appearances. Following a spell out of the game, Lloyd regrouped the Nightingales in 2004 to pursue his uncompromising ‘man in the street verbals over abrasive tunes’ tactical vision. Although you can still dig the guy’s track record, it’s not a nostalgia exercise, the band have put out 3 albums of great new material buoyed by a constantly changing line up.

Stewart Lee has described ‘top entertainer’ Ted Chippington as ‘the first post-alternative comedian’. Stew thought so much of him he organised a Tedstock benefit in 2007 to fund the production of a 4CD Ted boxset. Never one to rest on his laurels, Ted’s best performances were saved for away trips in front of drunken scallies or uncomprehending pub bores. TLB thought Ted had retired, but we are delighted to welcome him back to Preston, where he’s been booed off at least twice.
