Pascal Schumacher Quartet
Pascal Schumacher (vibraphone) has been described as a 'Goldsmith' in his art, a boundary-pushing musician, a resourceful improviser and an imaginative composer.
Keen to explore the links that exist between many musical genres, it is difficult to pigeonhole his talent, his taste or his musical influences.
Every musician must one day free himself from role models and traditions if he wishes to depart from well-trodden paths. Pascal Schumacher does this in an emphatic, sensual way.
Tonight the Quartet will be playing music from 'Bang My Can', music based on an approach characterized just as much by the chamber jazz of the eighties as by the rock sound of the nineties and the openness of the present.
Maxime Bender Quartet
Impressively combining the old with the new, this young saxophonist is equally influenced by the bouncy, compositional piano/sax interplay found on 70’s albums like Keith Jarrett’s ‘Belonging’, and more modern, angular, avant-garde tonalities.
The blend is never jarring, though. Maxime Bender has created a beautiful, buoyant body of work where melodies can move in surprising directions, yet still sound familiar.
