JEAN COCTEAU, 1950, 95 MINS
BLACK AND WHITE. IN FRENCH WITH SUBTITLES.
The Greek myth of Orpheus set in post-war Left Bank Paris. Jean Marais plays a poet caught between his love for both his wife Eurydice (Marie Déa) and a mysterious princess (Maria Casarès). Seeking inspiration, he follows the princess through a mirrored portal from the world of the living to the land of the dead. Cocteau uses early literature to inspire visual poetry and dreamlike storytelling.
This public event is part of Off The Shelf. There'll be a bar, music, poetry readings and the opportunity for post-film discussion. It's a happening not just a film show! Audience members are encouraged to dress up in fifties, black and white, or beatnik style.
