Informed by the same stripped, garage ethic that has defined a myriad of
northern English indie legends, Likely Lads are the most promising four-piece
band to emerge from York in some time.
In less than a year they have developed a reputation for high energy
performances, during which a meld of upbeat, tempo changing alternative
rock n roll complete with catchy riffs, and honest lyricism is showcased
before burgeoning numbers of soon-to-be-dedicated followers. And it’s these
shows that make references to a fledgling Oasis and early Arctic Monkeys
understandable.
Other than a swagger, don’t expect the expected. When guitarist Ash Harding,
lead singer and bassist Ross McLeod, rhythm guitarist Ben Porter, and drummer
Jordan Maher come together the results are unique and exceptional. It’s the
sound of influences ranging from The Charlatans to Jamie T, capped with a
typically Yorkshire penchant for the self-deprecating.
The guys have already been featured on BBC Introducing and their You Tube
videos are approaching 120,000 views and counting. Not bad for a band still in
its infancy, and proof if it were needed that this up and coming quartet are little
more than a stone’s throw away from arriving in a very big way.
“Before we start the race they say we're gonna finish last” they say in the track
Observations, but as should be clear by now, the reality couldn’t be further from
the truth.
