BEAUTIFUL STRANGE PRESENTS:

TUESDAY 10TH JULY at The Old Queen's Head, Islington, London

JUST HANDSHAKES (WE'RE BRITISH) + ALLOY ARK + CURXES + FOUNTAINS

Doors 19:30. Tickets £5.00 in advance

JUST HANDSHAKES (WE'RE BRITISH) - facebook.com/justhandshakes // http://justhandshakeswerebritish.tumblr.com/

Just Handshakes (We're British) are an indie pop band from Leeds. Clara, Michael, Edward and Jim met in 2008, bonded over their shared love of gin and Swedish pop, and then proceeded to spend a lot of time cooking and procrastinating. "Just Handshakes (We're British) play guitar-based indie pop fronted by a dulcet-toned lady with a wonderfully innocent inflection to her voice." - I Like Music

"Their dynamic blend of bright vocals, jangly guitars and casio adoration, could add colour to the gloomiest of lyrics." - Drowned In Sound

ALLOY ARK - https://www.facebook.com/pages/Alloy-Ark/160498134570 // alloyark.bandcamp.com

"Fronted by the tiny, celestial voiced Dani Appadoo Norwich quartet Alloy Ark are heading for the big time. Their early tracks were thin and weedy folkish indie, cute but no cigar. If you'd heard them in their early days you'd be shocked by the muscular, powerful Blue. With Dani's bouncy, little girl lost vocals surfing murky, dirty guitars it sounds like Altered Images relaunching themselves as a grunge band". The Devil Wears The Best Tuna

CURXES - facebook.com/CURXES // curxes.com/

A decorative set of bones, channelling the ghosts of discotheques past. Dramatic, chilling and emotional is the electronic noir sound from newcomers Curxes (pronounced 'Curses'). Minor keys and chromatic chord structures dominate as Roberta Fidora's haunting, powerful vocals melt over stabbing synths and a stark percussive framework, laced with Macaulay Hopwood's nouvelle vague bass and six string sensibilities. This unique, twilight sound is dramatic doom pop at its best. "The sound of two robots f*cking." Breaking More Waves

FOUNTAINS - facebook.com/Fountains/ // fountainstheband.bandcamp.com/

"If you're into your early New Wave influenced post-punk leanings this'll be right up your late 70′s blacked-out alley. The lovely 'You're Not Welcome' in particular borrowing from Joy Division in terms of Jon's vocal presence, close-atmosphere and sumptuous bass-riffs; though greeted with a warm handshake by The National maybe?"
